Synopsis

The Price of Ambition: Keep Moving is Alice Gathe’s memoir of growing up in Gachie, Kenya, and building a purposeful life through resilience, community, and faith.Born in 2002, Alice navigated early maturity, family instability (an unpredictable father and eventual parental separation), the pressure of being the “good girl,” and setbacks such as freezing as Head Girl and scoring 386/500 on her KCPE exams. Supported by the Affecto Foundation and mentor Ndung’u Nyoro, she thrived in high school as academic leader and Head Girl, then balanced university studies in Economics and Statistics with work, international travels, speaking engagements, and awards. In 2023–2024 she founded Bold Girl Unite, a youth-led organization empowering young women through mentorship, education, climate action, and a global fellowship, impacting tens of thousands. Amid public success came private crises, parental breakup, job loss, financial hardship, and the need to rescue her degree, yet she graduated in 2025 as the first university graduate on both sides of her family and began a career as a Product Manager.Gathe refuses to center her identity solely on struggle. She emphasizes choosing growth over survival, betting on oneself, community support, integrity, and Christ as her foundation. The book urges readers to keep moving, take the next step, and build lives defined by purpose rather than pain.
